iPhone hacking is on a roll! Word on the street is that Apache, Python and several other open source applications are now running on the iPhone. Unfortunately, this isn’t something for the faint of heart, installing these programs require the use of iPhone-hacker Nightwatch’s toolchain. If you have no idea what compilers or linkers are, I’d steer clear of it.

For the geekier ones among us, you can download the tools at iPhone dev wiki. As for unlocking, the team have supposedly found some sort of counter that tracks the number of unlocking attempts, possibly rendering the phone useless after a set number of attempts. Once the counter is under control, a brute force attack can take place.

I can hardly wait for this. If you’d like to keep track of the progress, join the #iPhone IRC channel.
