iOS devices are great for musicians. There are a plethora of great apps and accessories to help you make surprisingly high quality music using a very minimalistic set of gear. IK Multimedia just announced yet another such accessory: the iRig KEYS. It’s a highly portable 37 key MIDI and USB keyboard. You can plug it directly into your iPad, iPhone, Mac/PC or other piece of audio gear that supports MIDI. The iRIG KEYS will be shipping in fall of 2012, which is just around the corner, for $99.99. You can preorder on now directly from IK Multimedia.

The iRIg KEYS is a universal MIDI controller that also supports USB. It seems to be the perfect compromise between portability and usability. It has 37 velocity sensitive keys (that’s 3 octaves plus a note), yet it’s very thin and small enough to fit in your backpack. What’s really great is that it’s fully powered over USB, so there’s no need for a power adapter (unless you use it over MIDI).

This keyboard isn’t short on features either. It has both a regular modulation and pitch-bending wheel on the left side, as well as n input for an optional sustain pedal. It plugs directly into your iPad or iPhone, with no need for a USB adapter, which is necessary for most other USB keyboards. But that doesn’t mean you have to use an iOS device; you can use it with your Mac or PC or any of your gear that supports MIDI. And to top it all off, it looks pretty sharp too.

The iRig KEYS looks to be another exciting musical accessory from IK Multimedia. It’s not out quite yet, but you can preorder one now directly from IK Multimedia for just $99.99.
