The notifications feature in Mountain Lion is great, provided you want them. If you want to be left alone for a while, or if you just don’t care about how often your friends post to Facebook, then you can turn the notifications off quiet easily. It’s really easy to take notifications away; whether you decide to keep it that way is up to you.

  1. Click on the Notification Center icon while holding the option (you will find it on the menu bar of your Mac, usually at the far right; it looks like stacks of lines). If you’ve never used notifications before, then this will be the icon that you did not see in the last version of the operating system.
  2. Notifications CenterA toggle switch will appear, when you see it, toggle the switch from on to off.

Now all of the notifications are off. You can turn then off when you want to be left alone, and you can turn them back on with the same toggle switch. Nice and easy.
