Welcome back to 8 bit theater. Get your trigger finger ready to defend the Atlanteans from the airborne armada.

Defender of Atlantis is a retro shooter that draws its inspiration (perhaps a bit too heavily) from Imagic’s Atlantis for the Intellivision and Atari 2600 (although this version definitely has the Atari look and feel).

Defender of Atlantis

You need to shoot down the flying enemy ships and keep as many of the underwater defenders alive as long as possible. Not every invader will shoot at your city and you only get two shots on the screen at any one time, so be judicious with your shots. It sounds easy, but you only have two guns and they only fire in a fixed, straight line so timing is critical.

As mentioned, this is a retro game and the 8 bit reference is more than nostalgia. The game looks and plays very much like the original (except for the touch screen control). To fire the right side, gun tap the right side of the screen. Tap the left side to fire the left gun. You don’t need to be too specific where you tap to fire, the whole screen is divided down the middle to create, essentially, two half-screen buttons.

For the old school crew, this is a pleasant blast from the past. If you used to be good at games like this in the family den it will still provide that stimulating aggravation.

Defender of Atlantis

It isn’t eye candy and the control is about as basic as it gets, but it will still challenge your timing and your luck.
