Microsoft’s official Xbox SmartGlass app made its debut on the Google Android operating system, and Microsoft has finally released Xbox SmartGlass on iOS for both the iPhone and the iPad.
Based on the publisher’s own description, the Xbox SmartGlass app allows users to access certain functionality from your Xbox system, including navigating your Xbox’s Dashboard right from your device, typing into text fields using your iOS on-screen keyboard, and controlling Xbox’s Live internet Explorer browser using the touchscreen interface from your iDevice.
One of the nicest new features of the iOS app (shown in the video above) will be that it recognizes when you are viewing certain content on your gaming console and offers additional information about it, displaying said content on the iDevice screen.
Xbox SmartGlass is now available as a free download on the Apple’s App Store. The app is universal, so it will be compatible for your iPod touch, iPad mini, iPad and iPhone. Unfortunately, the application doesn’t take advantage of the iPhone 5’s larger 4-inch display.
