Overhaul Games has announced that Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is now available for iPad.
That should be all you need to know. Seriously, there’s no point in writing anything else because I know you’re already on your way to Forgotten Realms. But for the few of you still around, I’ll try to earn my paycheck by writing more words.
Bauldur’s Gate is an RPG originally launched by Interplay back in 1998. Developed by BioWare, the game featured over 50 hours of gameplay (pretty much unheard of at the time), sparked a sequel with numerous expansions, and pretty much became the inspiration for many RPGs to follow.
Now, Overhaul Games has brought it back to life and put it in the palm of your hands with Apple’s iPad. Graphics and gameplay have been enhanced, new allies can join your party (via in-app purchase), and new quests have been added. Overhaul has also created an arena challenge called Black Pits if you want to take on other players.
And speaking of other players, cooperative multiplay has been added across multiple platforms: PC, Mac, iPad and Android (Mac and Android versions coming soon).
Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition for iPad is available now for $9.99. Two new characters (a monk named Rasaad yn Bashir, a half-orc named Dorn Il-Khan, and a half-elf named Neera) are available for $2.99 each, along with a new portrait pack for $1.99 and a new voice pack for $1.99. If you’re not into in-app purchases, don’t fret; you still get 40 classes and kits, over 100 spells, over 150 magical items, and over 80 hours of gameplay for your $10.00.
Now, if nothing else gets posted to Appletell this weekend, you know why.
Baldur’s Gate currently doesn’t support the 1st gen iPad, but may soon. Language localization will also be addressed in a forthcoming update. Visit www.baldursgate.com for more information.
