AT&T has announced they will be expanding cellular data coverage for all their existing iPhone customers who use FaceTime over their cellular networks. The carrier released a statement this week stating that any customer who has signed up for the tiered data plan or their new family sharing data plan will be able to use Apple’s FaceTime feature at no additional cost.

Those who enrolled on the approved AT&T data plans won’t be required to perform updates on their iDevices in order to receive support for Apple’s FaceTime over 3G or 4G data networks. However, iPhone owners with AT&T’s grandfathered unlimited data plan will be out of luck, since the company (at this time of writing) has indicated they will now allow users to take advantage of FaceTime over cellular.
