Facebook has issued version 5.4 of its mobile app for iOS, bringing the ability to record and share videos and send voice messages from within the app itself.
You may remember that voice messaging was added to the Facebook Messenger app last week. It seems that this feature was well received by users, so Facebook decided to roll it out to its Facebook iOS app, which obviously has more users than Messenger.
Aside from voice messaging, the updated Facebook iOS app also now lets you record video and share it with your Facebook friends. When you are composing a message, you’ll now see the camera icon and select whether you want to capture a photo or record a video.
This feature comes hot on the heels of the availability of Vine, a Twitter-owned video sharing site which has been getting some media mileage lately.
Finally, the updated Facebook iOS app also now has the improved Nearby feature, which lets you share and connect with your favorite place.
Facebook for iOS is available as a universal app from the iTunes App Store. It’s free to download and use, so go ahead and grab it now if you haven’t done so yet.
