Forget snakes on a plane, we’ve got Zombies & Trains, an arcade style action game with, you guessed it, zombies and trains. The crowd has gathered in the coliseum and the zombies have been set loose to try to get to the prize at the center of the arena. Oddly enough, the prize is a statue shaped like a—wait for it—braaaaaaaaaaainnnn (good and good for you, mmmm).
Your job is to set the trains rolling to squash the shambling horde before one of them gets to the prize. There are four tracks so make sure the intersections are clear or you’ll end up with a real train wreck (no, really, the trains will smash into each other) and will give the zombies more time to reach the prize.
There are four modes of game play, from arcade to survival. All of them enjoy the satisfaction of plastering the undead to the cheers of the crowd.
As you tap a set of rails a train will run either from left to right, or from top to bottom. Any zombies in the train’s path are quickly turned into a red smear. Each track can send a train at intervals, and the intersections dictate some caution regarding which track you use and how to time the trains. There are nifty power-ups like flaming train (leaves a trail of fire to kill the stragglers), zombie bomb (kills all the zombies on the screen), etc. Of course, if you want to spend extra cash, you can buy game coins to power up more quickly.
Who doesn’t like killing zombies? Crazy people, that’s who. The game play is easy and fast moving enough to keep you alert. You get some variety with the four play modes, and the power ups add a dash of spice.
Zombies & Trains is very simple and straightforward, but it uses a formula which works: kill zombies.
