There are thousands of kickstarter projects asking for your money, and it can be difficult to find which ones you should donate to. In this new column at AppleTell, we’ll highlight the projects we think are worthy of your attention and support.

What is Whispering Willows?

Whispering Willows is a 2-D horror puzzle game for OUYA, PC, Mac, and Linux (later to Android and iOS) being developed by indie game studio Night Light Interactive. You play as Elena who is in search of her missing father. Using her supernatural abilities to create an astral projection, you can fly through the air, squeeze through cracks, manipulate time, freeze objects, and harness the power of light to ward off evil spirits.

You’ll need to use these abilities wisely to solve the many mysteries of Willows Mansion and free the spirits trapped there who in turn can help you find your father.

Why should I support Whispering Willows?

What intrigues me is the promise of psychological horror that will reveal “a past that is so horrifying and yet so human that you’ll be left not knowing what to think. The lies, deceit and inhuman violence will all bubble to the surface when you play Whispering Willows.” Too often, games try to scare you with jump scares or gore, and being drawn into a game with horror of a different sort is very appealing. If the music is any indication, they just might be able to deliver on their promise.

Whispering Willows has an interesting mechanic that requires you to use your astral form to solve puzzles. It looks like you’ll need to put your thinking cap on and think outside the box to figure out what to do and how to explore.

If you’re a fan of point and click adventure games as I am, then the idea of challenging puzzles is enough to warrant a closer look.

Where can I find out more about Whispering Willows?
