“War is upon us.” That declaration means either a new video game or another Michael Bay film is on the way, and thankfully in this case it’s the former. Feral Interactive announced this morning that the award-winning strategy game XCOM Enemy Unknown Elite Edition is coming to the Macintosh this spring. Developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games for PC and consoles, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a re-imagining of the 1994 classic X-COM: UFO Defense.
So, I guess war has been upon for nearly 20 years. Michael Bay will be pleased!
XCOM: Enemy Unknown expands on the X-COM legacy with an entirely new story, enemies and technologies to fight hostile aliens and defend Earth. In XCOM: Enemy Unknown, players oversee combat strategies and individual unit tactics, as well as base management and resource allocation while playing as the commander of a secret global military organization, XCOM. With equal emphasis on deep strategy and intense tactical combat, XCOM: Enemy Unknown allows gamers to control the fate of the human race by defending against a terrifying global alien invasion.
As usual, we patient Mac gamers will be rewarded with the Elite Edition, which includes the Slingshot and Elite Soldier Pack add-on content, as well as the Second Wave update, which includes a series of gameplay modifiers that add further depth and flexibility to the campaign.
Pricing, system requirements, and multiplayer details are not yet available, but Feral does have a trailer ready to whet your appetite:
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on XCOM: Enemy Unknown as Feral releases details. In the meantime, visit www.xcom.com for more information on the game.
