Yesterday, the fine folks at Gamertell reported that LEVEL-5 (the company best known for the Professor Layton Nintendo DS/3DS series) had brought their sci-fi shooter Liberation Maiden to iOS. It made its debut in the App Store today, and is now all nice and official with a shiny new press release. Don’t you want to know what it is?
Before we get there, I’ll point out some highlights. The iOS version gets some updates over the original 3DS version via Retina display support and Game Center achievements/challenges. Of course, the controls have been optimized for touchscreen devices, too, but we’ll see how that works out.
Now, the game:
LIBERATION MAIDEN is a high-octane sci-fi shooter produced by LEVEL-5 and directed by critically acclaimed developer Goichi Suda (SUDA51) from Grasshopper Manufacture, creators of fan-favorites Lollipop Chainsaw, No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned and many more. Set 100 years in the future in New Japan, LIBERATION MAIDEN puts players in the role of young President Shoko Ozora, piloting a humanoid mech she must use to free her country from the yoke of tyranny. The game brings AAA production values to the downloadable market in an unprecedented collaboration of all-star creators in music, art, and design, including breathtaking animationby the famed animation studio, bones.
The best news of all? It costs money! Glorious, glorious cash. No freemium nonsense, no in-app purchases. You buy the game, you get the game, you play the game. And if you don’t feel the top-tier work of developers such as SUDA51 is worth $5.00—even on iOS—then you’ve effectively disqualified yourself from all intelligent conversations about gaming.
