Photo apps are big business. From the awesomely named developer, Hi Mom S.A.S, comes Typic Pro on iOS—another photo app with the usual plethora of pre-installed filters and sharing options. The point of difference for Typic Pro is the ability to add text and graphic designs.

Just to throw this out early doors…I love Typic Pro; it rocks. It’s the only photo app other than Apple’s own Photos that I use multiple times a day. It’s great strength lies in its constraints.

Here’s a breakdown:

• 7 choices of text color
• 12 graphic design elements
• 2 frames
• 1 text opacity slider
• Lens blur feature

My rudimentary effort to calculate the number of design variations possible with this app produce a value of roughly 8 bazillion. So that’s heaps enough for photos of your dinner.

With little effort, you can create beautiful photos with clever looking, professional design elements in a square aspect ratio and either share them across your social networks or save them locally for family albums etc.

The app is a dream to use, and its user interface creates a clever illusion of active involvement. The screen is split in half with your selected image on top and your edits panel underneath. You can see what you’re creating in real time and make changes swiftly with no lag whatsoever. This may differ if used on an older generation iPhone, however.

In essence, Typic Pro delivers where many other apps of its ilk fail miserably. It strikes the right balance between ease of use and significant choice on one hand, with professional looking, unique images on the other.
