When the company that brought iPhone, iPad and iPod touch gamers Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride announces a new game, you pay attention. That’s why we’re telling you about Halfbrick’s Fish out of Water. With these fish, though, it’s by choice, as they long to soar above the ocean and see the world from a whole new perspective.
In the tradition of Halfbrick games, Fish Out of Water features a very simple interface. Using only one touch, players throw their fish to send them flying through the clouds and skipping across the waves.
In each round, players have three throws, choosing the best fish depending on their personal preference and the conditions of the ocean. The weather changes every hour, from a glassy calm surface to a raging thunderstorm. There’s even potential for glaciers, geysers and a bouncing jellyfish invasion! Each fish has their own strengths and weaknesses, so it’s all part of the strategy getting the most out of every turn.
Those fish, by the way, include the speed demon Rocket, the massive whale Micro, and a vacant blowfish named Errol, amongst others. Consider them your first introduction to the characters Halfbrick will unveiling in their new games throughout 2013.
Fish Out of Water is available for $0.99 from the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, with in-app purchases available.
