iPhone 5With rumors about a low-cost iPhone and the iPhone 5S becoming more frequent, retailers are lowering prices on the iPhone 5. Walmart is the latest, offering $60 off of the iPhone 5 which brings price down from $189 to $129. Walmart will also be lowering the price of the iPhone 4S by $50, bringing the price down from $89 to $39. These are some of the best discounts that can be found for the current iPhone lineup, as Apple still has their iPhone 5 priced at $199. Walmart’s promotion is only available in-store, and requires a two year contract with Verizon, AT&T or Sprint.

Earlier this week, Best Buy began offering customers the option to trade in their iPhone 4/4S in return for an iPhone 5. This is entirely dependent upon the condition of the device they are trading in, but it does offer customers the latest generation iPhone at no extra cost.

Though there are rumors of new iPhones slated for release this fall, it is unusual for retailers to offer price drops so early in the year. It’s possible that offering iPhone discounts during the summer season is more likely to boost sales, especially in-store when there are generally more customers visiting the store. RadioShack has yet to offer any kind of promotion for the iPhone 5, although it did lower the price of the iPhone 5 down to $149.99 late last year.
