iftttscreenThis week on the Free Apps Roundup: It’s almost hard to believe, but the App Store just turned 5 this week. That’s 5 great years of apps making our lives better, or at least more entertaining. To celebrate the occasion many developers have made their apps free. Seriously, you’re going to wish you had more free storage space on your iOS devices after you see what’s free. In addition to that, IFTTT released an app to make use of their amazing web service that links other services together based on conditions. It’s very cool, so be sure to check it out along with all the other great freebies this week.

The Top Three Free Apps:

  • IFTTT – This app gives you the power of an electronic god. You can create powerful connections with a simple If statement. For instance, if you’d like to get a text message when it starts raining outside, this app can do that for you and so much more. An if-then statement is called a Recipe, and the app actually gives you access to even more options than the web service. You don’t have to be a coding master, you don’t even have to write Recipes yourself. Just browse what’s already out there.
  • Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP – This is a very unique exploratory action adventure game with an emphasis on audiovisual style. Traverse a mythic little realm, use a sword to do battle & evoke sorcery to solve mystical musical mysteries. And now you can play it for free to celebrate 5 years of the App Store.
  • Traktor DJ – It’s a revolutionary DJ app by the makers of the leading pro DJ software: Native Instruments. With direct access to your iTunes music library and tons of controls, effects, and other tools, this app turns your iPad into a respectable digital DJ interface. Plus, it looks cool. This app normally costs $20, so if I were you, I’d go download it right now.

Free Apps for a Limited Time:

  • Traktor DJ for iPhone – The same for iPhone.
  • The CIA World Factbook – While not as comprehensive as the NSA World Factbook, this contains the whole CIA world fact book, which is a collection of data about a surprising amount of things than span the globe.
  • Vio – Transform your voice into a mesmerizing instrument. Morph and shape the sounds you create by exploring Vio’s entrancing interface.
  • Wide Split Lens – This app gives you the tools to make some really interesting images. The kind where you appear in the frame in more than one location.
  • ForeverMap 2 – Do you worry that you won’t have an internet connection but will have an immediate need for a global map? Me neither, but just in case, this app will give you the ability to download any set of maps from OpenStreeMap and keep them stored on your device.
  • Girls Like Robots – It’s a puzzle game for everyone from Adult Swim Games. It’s a constantly evolving game where the characters are the pieces and their feelings dictate the rules. Try to make everyone happy.
  • Zenonia 3 – An up-scaled third installment of the Zenonia series of RPG games.
  • Air Penguin – It’s an incredibly simple yet addictive game. You tilt the device to help Air Penguin save his family from melting ice caps.
  • The Sims Medieval – It’s yet another sims game, except this one is set in a medieval time period.
  • The Sims Medieval for iPad – The same for iPad.
  • Angry Birds Star Wars – A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…a group of desperate rebel birds faced off against a galactic menace: the Empire’s evil Pigtroopers.
  • Angry Birds Star Wars HD – The same for iPad.
  • Mirrors Edge – Immerse yourself in the world of Faith Connors, an underground Runner in a “perfect society” full of sinister surveillance and relentless pursuers.
  • Mirrors Edge for iPad – The same for iPad.
  • Flight Control – This is a classic App Store game. You are an air traffic controller. You control the flight paths of everything on screen via touch.
  • Flight Control HD – The same for iPad.
  • Dead Space – An original dead space story designed for iOS featuring hardcore gameplay and a rich audio experience.
  • Dead Space for iPad – The same for iPad.
  • Peggle – This is one of my favorite games for iOS. It’s a puzzle game. You shoot marbles on a board to try to break all of the blocks and clear the level. It’s very fun.
  • Peggle HD – The same for iPad.
  • Tiny Wings – You’ve always dreamed of flying, but your wings are tiny. Use the hills as jumps, slide, flap, and fly! Time it right to make gravity work for you.
  • Tiny Wings HD – The same for iPad.
  • Infinity Blade II – The God King has been defeated, an unlikely hero has emerged and now you must discover the truth behind the secrets of the Infinity Blade. Delve deeper into the world of the Deathless tyrants and their legion of Titans.
