Early today, Apple launched an updated version of Logic Pro X. The professional audio software appears to be entirely redesigned with several new features and lots of touch integration for interacting with the software. One feature that highlights this interaction is the new virtual drummer that follows along with the user and plays in a range of different drum styles.
The updated software also allows users to edit the pitch with Flex Pitch. To increase the amount of user interaction, Apple has also released an iPad app as part of the Logic Pro X software. It lets users play music through the iPad and control Logic Pro X from the tablet, which is something that can be very handy when you get tired of a mouse.
Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller commented on the new software and praised it for its variety of user-friendly features, saying, “Logic Pro X is our most powerful version yet, with advanced tools and a modern new interface designed to streamline the process of creating professional quality music. Musicians are going to love creative new features like Drummer, Flex Pitch, Track Stacks and the Arpeggiator.”
Apple issued a press release announcing the availability of the software soon after it was posted to the Mac App Store, where it’s available for $199.99. The iPad companion, Logic Remote, is available on the iOS App Store for free. Apple also released a live performance app that works with Logic Pro X—MainStage 3—which is available for $29.99 from the Mac App Store.
