With time, we have seen smartphone manufacturers focus on making devices with bigger screens. In order to compete in the ever growing smartphone market, it is almost a necessity for Apple to introduce a handset with a bigger screen size. Apple did go with a bigger 4-inch screen on the iPhone 5, but it’s not nearly as large as devices currently hitting the market.
And so, a new report has emerged from the Wall Street Journal that Apple and its suppliers are working on bigger displays for iPhones and iPads. WSJ’s sources suggest Apple is testing a 13-inch iPad along with bigger iPhones.
In recent months, Apple has asked for prototype smartphone screens larger than 4 inches and has also asked for screen designs for a new tablet device measuring slightly less than 13 inches diagonally, they said.
The next iPhone is expected to launch later this year with a similar screen size as iPhone 5, along with hardware improvements. The device is expected to have the same design, as well.
Rumors also suggest Apple is working on a cheaper version of iPhone to compete it the mid-range market. It’ll be interested to see if Apple has success in this area considering it’s already crowded and dominated by other vendors.
