Al LoweThe first time I interviewed Al Lowe was a little over 10 years ago. It was an interview for a fake awards show I used to put together for  Applelinks, called the Moofies. Wasn’t I clever? We’d awarded Al the Second Annual Moofie Lifetime Achievement award for bringing adventure gamers classic titles such as Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, Freddy Pharkus: Frontier Pharmacist, and Torin’s Passage.

At the time, I said of Al:

The thing about speaking with Al Lowe is that, after about three minutes, the interview settles into a casual conversation. Perhaps it’s because I’ve played so many of his games, but he quickly came across as the neighbor who’s always the first to be invited to the BBQs.

This time, the interview began as a casual conversation, as we talked about the Seattle Seahawks, music, marriage, and oh yeah, I have to do this interview. Al’s most famous character, you see—Larry Laffer—has been given new life through Replay Games’ Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded for Mac, PC, iPad and Android tablet devices. Considering how (sadly) important Larry was to my formative years, I took this opportunity to speak with Al about how the remake came about, the role Kickstarter played in its production, and what character from TVs The Office ended up with a surprise role.
