Plants vs. Zombies 2 has just hit the iTunes App Store. We’ve waited for this moment. We’ve envied our fellow iOS gamers in Australia and New Zealand who’ve been playing the game for weeks now, but the wait is finally over. Get it now and, I assure you, you’ll be playing the game for the next couple of weeks as I did (I created a new iTunes account just to play this game, and the hassles were all worth it). Plants vs. Zombies 2 is a great sequel to a great game.
It’s bigger, its better and it brings twice the fun and enjoyment of the original Plants vs Zombies.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 Review – Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, nothing much has been changed in Plants vs. Zombies 2, really. Protect your brain from the zombies by strategically placing plant varieties on various grounds, preventing the zombies coming from the right side of the screen from reaching the left side of the screen.
Grow your plants using sun coming from sunflowers. As in the original game, Plants vs. Zombies 2 also offers you various plants that become more powerful as you progress. You’ll even have the luxury of using Canons!
Plants vs Zombies 2 Review – New Worlds, New Features
One difference between this sequel and the original game is the fact that you’ll be playing in three different worlds: ancient Egypt, pirate seas and the wild west. I’m hoping more worlds will be added soon as this will increase the longevity of the game. Is Popcap taking the cue from Angry Birds? Who knows.
At first, ancient Egypt is the only world available. And don’t worry, you don’t have to make in-app purchases to open the other worlds; all you have to do is play the first level and collect as many stars as you can. You’ll need these stars to unlock the two others worlds.
A new feature is the ability to supercharge your plants using plant foods coming from green blinking zombies that you kill. You can collect up to four plant foods at a time, and you’ll have to use them wisely since the green zombies come out randomly. There are also new power-up moves which you can use by pinching, flicking, and zapping zombies away. These power moves will cost you coins, however, so be sure to amass as many as possible since these power moves will come in handy during difficult times.
Plants vs Zombies 2 review – Our Verdict
For those who are worried you’ll be spending too much to fully enjoy the game, worry not; you can finish the three worlds just be relying on plants that become available for you to use. While most free games will force you to spend real money via in-app purchase to fully enjoy them, Plants vs Zombies 2 will not.
It took PopCap three years to come up with a sequel to their highly successful game, and we’re telling you right now that those three years of waiting were all worth it. Plants vs Zombies 2 is a wonderful sequel to a wonderful game. You’ll forget about candies, we can assure you.
