screen568x568This week on the Free Apps Roundup: It’s all about celebrations. It would seem that just about every developer is celebrating something or another. Obviously, you can share in the celebrations with some awesome free apps and games. First up is a sequel: Plants vs. Zombies 2. Lead your plant-based army against the undead. Maybe you’re a gold digger in search of gold. Or maybe you just want to download one of the many other apps or games that are on this weeks list.

The Top Three Free Apps:

  • Plants vs. Zombies 2 – The Zombies are coming…back. This is the sequel to the original hit action-strategy adventure. Join Crazy Dave on a crazy adventure where you’ll meet, greet and defeat legions of zombies from the dawn of time to the end of days. There are new plants for your army, new zombies to de-feet, and much more in this free to play game.
  • Gold Diggers – Are you a gold digger? If so, start your engines, because you’re about to take control of one of the wild west’s best kept secrets: Gigantic Superlicious Steam-Punk Digging Trams. The goal is simple, find gold. Just watch out for the giant worms, flame pillars and other dangers along the way.
  • Champs: Battlegrounds – Lead your squad to victory in this game, an action-packed, squad-based strategy game with fast paced real-time combat. You build a squad and can battle through the campaign, challenge other players, and upgrade your army with more powerful Champs.

Free Apps for a Limited Time:

  • iClean – For the paranoid among us, this app will wipe out any data you thought was already deleted.
  • E Theremin – To celebrate Leon Theremin’s birthday, this wonderful virtual Theremin app is free. Now you’ll be able to play wonderful songs like the theme to Doctor Who or Star Trek! You’ll be a crowd pleaser for sure.
  • Smart Office 2 – This app allows you to view, create, edit, and share Microsoft Office documents. Plus it integrates with Box, Dropbox, and Google Docs.
  • Count.do – Here’s a simple app that reminds you of the things you need to do by setting countdowns for them.
  • Fraggle Friends Forever – Celebrate Fraggle Rock’s 30th Anniversary with this deluxe story app from the Jim Henson Company and Cupcake Digital.
  • Capsule – Save your favorite places all in one place with this app. You can find and mark locations on a map so you know where all of your favorite places are.
  • STARSS – This is a News and Blog Reader with an authentic LCARS interface. If you don’t know what that is already, you’re probably too cool for your own good.
  • Cut the Buttons HD – Cut the buttons, not the bolts. Easy enough, right? This is definitely a unique game that makes good use of multitouch controls.
  • Strength in Numbers – There are few things as exciting as Mathematics. I didn’t mean that as a joke, which is why I think this multiplayer puzzle game is a great idea. There’s a target number and you have to use three tiles to make a mathematical statement that equals it. It’s basic math.
  • Blux Movie – Celebrate the selection of Blux camera Pro in the App Store’s “Essential Photography 101″ list. This app is a 1080p video app with Hollywood inspired HD filters. There are 8 split screen options, 9 unique HD filters and more.
  • Blux Movie HD – The same for iPad.
  • Snow Moto Racing – Miss winter? This game will put your right back on a snowmobile, racing through snow covered landscapes.
  • Starship Battles – Take control of formidable warships to defend the galaxy against an infinite force of relentless aliens.
  • Wooden Labyrinth 3D – This is an oldie, but a goodie. It’s a classic wooden labyrinth game. The best part is that you can even create your own levels online.
  • Smash Cops – Celebrate the launch of Smash Bandits on August 22nd with the original Smash Cops. It’s an intense action racing game which pits your driving skills against felons desperate to outrun you in wild chases.
