Gameloft has just released the 8th installment in its succesful Asphalt car racing game, and they call it Asphalt 8: Airborne. For those who are unaware, this is actually the 4th installment in the Asphalt series for iOS. That said, Asphalt 8 is one great arcade racing game that fans of the genre should waste no time in getting. Better if you have the latest iPad, for a more gorgeous playing experience.
One word that will best describe Asphalt 8 has got to be “huge.” It’s a huge arcade racing game with tons of goodies that fans of the series and Asphalt newbies will surely like. There are 47 high-performance cars, 8 seasons and 180 events in the Career mode and multiplayer game mode.
Taking its cue from the title, expect tons of high-flying action sequences if you can maneuver your cars successfully. There are ramps that will send your cars into the air in a straight upward trajectory, or you can perform barrels rolls or 360 degree jumps.
While racing, you’ll also be discovering hidden shortchuts which will play a key role in making you beat events and races successfully. Take note of this, guys; the career mode is not too easy to win at all. Most of the time you’ll be using low-ranking cars to race against high-ranking faster cars, so make sure to upgrade your cars whenever you have the funds. And speaking of funds, the game is not too generous in that regard; you have to really earn it. Finishing races in 2nd or third won’t do the trick, you have to try to come in first to get more cash.
When it comes to graphics, Asphalt 8 will not disappoint you. Gameloft has successfully peppered the game with stunning visuals. It’s far from being perfectly realistic, but hey, this is an arcade racing game, so not having achieved graphic perfection is not a big deal. What’s important is that the game is fun to play with enough eye-candy to please your visual appetite.
So, what else is there to say about Asphalt 8: Airborne? Not much, except that if you’re an arcade racing game fan, this one should be in your iOS device. It will only set you back for $0.99, and being almost freeware does not cripple the game at all. That’s comforting.
Is it the best arcade racing game for iOS? Possibly. But one thing is for sure—Asphalt 8: Airbone is the best in the series for iOS so far.
