Describing it as “hauntingly beautiful,” Twelve South today pulled the sheet back from their new GhostStand Macbook riser stand. A simple stand composed of interlocking Lucite arms, GhostStand raises your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro about six inches off your desk. This provides a number of benefits, while its barely-there aesthetic helps keep your desk space visually uncluttered.
Higher and Higher
Elevating your laptop has a number of advantages—chiefly ergonomic, but also technical. Laptops are terrible on your neck, requiring that you bend your neck down to see them, so the boost your GhostStand gives to your screen means you can keep your head in a straighter, more neutral position. Your Mac will appreciate the extra air space as well, since heat can radiate away from your computer’s case rather than build up in your desk. If you use an external monitor, the GhostStand can help position your MacBook’s screen closer in height to that of your monitor, so glancing between screens involves less physical adjustment and more productive work.
Twelve South’s design focus means the GhostStand looks part sculpture, part computer accessory. Virtually disappearing when in use, the GhostStand has the look of a sculpture when it’s all by itself, so your desk will look just as good even when your computer is away. Clearly echoing the iconic Ghost Chair by Philippe Starck, this stand will look right at home in a modern office, and the Lucite arms are topped with soft silicone grips at the top and bottom to keep both your MacBook and desk secure.
The GhostStand goes for $35, and is available from today at Twelve South’s online store.
