Moshi Origo dual-tone silicone case for iPhone 5/5s review

Moshi has come up with another design to protect your beloved iPhone 5/5s. The Origo is a silicone case that not only provides protection for the back and sides of your phone, but also covers the lower front around the Home button for partial front protection. I like the idea of more protection without adding much bulk to the phone, but how does it hold up to real world use? Let’s find out…

The back cover of the Origo uses a honeycomb style rib design that adds strength to the case and cushion to the iPhone without adding a lot of weight. All buttons are protected except for the silencer switch, which is easily accessible. The opening to the headphone jack, speaker and Lightning connector are all wide open, allowing the case to remain on the iPhone when using a docking device.

The Origo also provides protection for the lower portion of the front of the iPhone, just below the screen and completely covering the Home button.

The case has a stamped button over the actual Home button so there’s some tactile feedback to let know where to press. Operation of the Home button is easy and unhindered.

Real World Use

Because the Origo is made entirely of silicone, the case is flexible enough to make it very easy to slide the iPhone in.  Likewise, this flexibility makes it easy to pop the phone out of the case (perhaps too easy, as this was especially true when pulling the iPhone out from my front pants pocket).

While the idea of protecting the Home button and the entire lower front of the iPhone might sound good, I found the cover got in the way of using the phone. This may not be an issue for those who haven’t upgraded to iOS 7, but for those who have, the front protection interferes with the swiping up motion used to access the controls to turn on the flashlight, for example.

The Origo dual-tone silicone case from Moshi offers full protection of your iPhone 5/5s without adding any unwanted weight or bulk, ad its design will allow the case to remain on the iPhone when used with most docking devices. However, I found the silicone to be too flexible and a bit loose fitting for a tight and secure fit. As such, there are other and better choices out there at this price point.

eBay from China the same design $2.50 with free shipping. What would anyone pay $25 for a silicone case? Ridiculous!😝
