After the first iPhone 5s print ads arrived last week, Apple has now aired iPhone 5s commercial called “Metal Mastered” for the popular device. The TV spot uses the same video the company aired during the media event when it announced the iPhone, but added an upbeat disco track called “Ohh La La” by Goldfrapp to make the ad more appealing.
The video shows molten metal coming together to form the new gold colored iPhone 5s, and even shows the new Touch ID sensor coming together in great detail.
It’s very clear Apple is trying to show off the craftsmanship of the phone and is trying to appeal to customers with the gold color option. Apple is making their products flashy for the first time, which I’m not sure I really like. However, it seems to be working with customers who are snapping up the gold colored iPhone 5s as soon as they are being manufactured.
The ad is very similar to an iPhone 5c ad called “Plastic Perfected” released soon after that model was announced. In that ad, melted plastic comes together to form the plastic frame of the iPhone 5c, much like the metal in this one.
It is interesting to note that Apple mentioned that the iPhone 5s was ”subject to availability,” as supplies for the new flagship iPhone have been constrained since release. Apple is now ramping up iPhone 5s advertising, likely as supplies become available.
