We’ve seen some incidents this year in which iPhones and iPads have caught fire or shocked people while charging. A Chinese woman lost her life when she tried to answer a call on her iPhone while it was charging through an unauthorized third-party device.
The latest incident took place on Wednesday at a Vodafone store in Canberra, Australia, where a demo iPad Air caught fire while it was charging. A Vodafone spokesperson confirmed the news and said the charging port of the demo unit caught fire. The entire store filled with smoke and sparks kept coming from the charging port when the ambulance was called. Thankfully, no employees or customers were hurt.
Apple sent a representative to get the demo iPad Air for investigation and to determine the cause of the fire.
These types of incidents are becoming a bit too common, so users are advised to be very careful when dealing with electronics, especially their smartphones.
