JBL’s Synchros line of in-ear headphones provides you with clear, high quality sound. You’ll notice a big difference in sound quality from your standard earbuds even if you’re not an audiophile. The Synchros S100i is one of the best options for in-ear headphones in the market for its price point.
The design of these headphones is my second favorite thing about them, and I only say that because the sound quality is first (more on that later). JBL uses high-end die-cast aluminum that provides excellent construction while keeping the weight down. I can’t begin to tell you how much I dislike heavy earbuds that fall out of your ears because they’re too heavy to stay put. They also angled to stay in place; when I went to the gym and ran the track, the headphones stayed put the whole time, thanks also to three angled ear tips (available in S, M, or L). JBL also throws in Comply™ foam tips that provide pretty decent sound isolation and slightly better sound performance.
I also appreciate that the S100i headphones use a flat cable design, similar to the Beats by Dre in-ear. This cable helps to prevent tangling when you stuff the headphones into your pocket, not that you would want to do that with these high quality headphones. Nonetheless, it is much easier to not have to untangle your headphones every time you want to listen to music. Included with the flat cable is the same in-line remote control you see on Apple’s headphones. Prior to using the JBL S100i headphones I was using the Apple EarPods, so these were a huge step up without having to sacrifice any familiarity.
On a side note, the packaging reminded me a lot of Apple products so I was impressed by how JBL really focused on quality both internally and externally.
As I mentioned before, I was using the EarPods before I began using these, so I noticed a major improvement in sound. The EarPods are a pretty decent set of earbuds for something that is included with every new iPhone 5s or 5c. The JBL S100i in-ear headphones are very different because the sound is so much clearer with a decent amount of bass that doesn’t muddle the music. JBL is known for its high quality speakers, so it was no surprise to me that these headphones brought a great amount of quality to my music.
With the Comply™ foam tips, users will automatically be able to drown out background noise. So, when you listen to music on the subway or want to block out the noise of traffic coming from outside, these are great for that. The in-line remote control works the same way you would expect on the iPhone, so switching songs and skipping ahead is just as easy, allowing you to focus more on the excellent audio. Ultimately, I was very happy with the sound quality, and I find myself listening to more music whenever I’m on the go.
I really enjoyed testing out the Synchros s100is, though I am not a huge fan of in-ear headphones which tend to thump in your ears when you hit the cable with your jacket or your hand. Since these have a flat cable design, I heard it a lot more. However, it doesn’t affect the sound quality, and it’s an issue I have with all in-ear headphones.
With the Synchros S100i in-ear headphones, JBL has put out an excellent product for music lovers. With everything you’re getting, I think most customers will be able to look past the price tag. Headphones of this quality tend to be priced above $150, and I think JBL got it just right with $99.
