The AKG K845 over-ear headphones from Harman International’s AKG brand are the best headphones I’ve tried out in recent memory. They’re huge, covering the user’s ears and a lot more, but they provide first-rate sound without hurting the ears.
Available in both black and white, the K845 headphones (known as the K845BT in some markets) are remarkably light for headphones of this size. I’ve tested them out in a variety of settings—from exercise to a workday to an afternoon of raking leaves—and found them comfortable for each activity; no earaches here.
They also sound great. In each setting, the audio was crystal-clear thanks to the follow specification:
- Driver: 50 mm
- Frequency Response: 20-20 kHz
- Maximum Input Power: 50 mW
- Input Impedance: 32 ohms
- Sensitivity: 102 dB SPL/V
The K845s also feature Bluetooth and NFC connectivity for pairing with mobile devices. Available in white and black, the product comes with two different detachable cables: one geared towards iOS devices and the other for Android, BlackBerry and other devices.
The successor to the previous AKG 550 model—and the rare high-end headphone that comes without a famous rapper or athlete’s name attached—the K845 has won a CES Design and Innovation award.
Overall, the AKG K845s are highly recommended. Worth the $299.95 price tag? That’s another question, one that, to be fair, applies to all headphones.
