Apogee has announced a new version of the JAM guitar interface, the JAM 96k. This professional quality interface features tube amp tone emulation and a beautiful nickel-plated finish. But, as it’s name reveals, the most significant feature is it’s ability to record at up to 24-bit/96kHz. The JAM 96k connects to your iOS device or Mac via 30 pin, Lightning, and USB connectors. It’s available now for $129.
The JAM 96k is designed for electric guitar, bass, and acoustic instruments with a pickup. The discrete class A input state emulates the sound and feel that so many musician’s seek out, that of a classic guitar amp with tubes. In addition to the beautiful nickel plated finish, the body of this device has a control knob for easy input level adjustment, a multicolor LED for status indication and input level monitoring, and the ports for connecting cables to your instrument and device. The instrument preamp is studio quality with up to 40dB of gain. This looks to be the most simple and inexpensive way of getting superb audio quality from your instrument into your iOS device or Mac. And if it sounds anything like Apogee’s other high end audio adapters like the Quartet or Duet, it’ll be worth every penny.
