Pad & Quill has become respected in the world of iPhone and iPad cases, joining a select few companies that have a keen eye for materials, quality, and craftsmanship. Leather and wood in a product rarely go bad, and when you blend in an all aluminum and glass iPhone, you have an excellent combination of high quality materials melding to provide you with excellent protection for your smartphone.
Pad & Quill’s Little Pocket Book is available in five different internal colors: slate gray, plum, French roast, merlot red, and deep sea blue. The outside is available in black and brown leather.
Design and Usability
I knew that when I first took the Little Pocket Book out of the box that it was going to be a perfect companion to my iPhone 5s. The slate gray color of the phone matched excellently with the stitched black leather on the outside of my review unit. Embossed nicely on the bottom of the case is Pad & Quill’s logo, and nothing else. The case screams simplicity, especially when you put your iPhone in and close it shut with a band that keeps the case closed.
The Little Pocket Book has a rear camera opening so you can still take pictures, and the for ports for the audio, mic, headphone jack, Lightning connecter and buttons are all left open so nothing interferes with it. This case definitely will not fit into cradles or some third party Lightning chargers or headphones, so you might want to consider something different if that is very important to you.
When you open up the case, you will see the iPhone on one side, resting in a nice Baltic birch cradle with Z Grabber grip corners. On the opposite side are several pockets for credit cards, an ID window below them, and a sideways pocket behind all of that for stowing away money or more cards. I did find it very hard to close the case when I put in more than four cards and had to use the elastic band to hold it closed all the time. Even with this, the case is designed with simplicity in mind so if you are looking to find a case that acts as a full wallet, you won’t find it here.
The leather has a pleasant feel every time you open and close the feel, and I already know that the leather will develop a patina over time. You want your iPhone case to tell a story of where you’ve been and who you are, and leather does that without giving your case a used look.
I use review iPhone cases and often switch them multiple times, but I think that Pad & Quill will be my case of choice for quite some time.
Pad & Quill has created a product that combines the best elements of a high quality iPhone case and a wallet. If you’re a minimalist in the sense that you like carrying less stuff, you’ll enjoy this case. If you prefer thinner iPhone cases, however, then this may not be the most suitable choice (though it is thinner than some other wallet-style cases).
