When the Wall Street Journal publishes a report from “reliable sources,” there’s a high probability it will come true. That’s why we’re pretty excited about its latest story that Apple will release the iPhone 6 this fall, again in two models. And yes, the iPhone 6 will have a larger screen than the current iPhone 5s. In fact, it might fall into the “phablet” category due to its screen size. According to WSJ, the iPhone 6 will be sporting a screen more than 5 inches in size, and another one will have a 4.5″ screen.

Unlike the previous iPhone 5c though, the step-down version of the iPhone 6 will not be sporting a plastic casing. In fact, Apple is scrapping the plastic exterior used in the iPhone 5c. Both iPhone 6 models will have metal casings similar to the iPhone 5s. WSJ also adds that the smaller iPhone 6 is further along in development and is being eyed for mass production while the model with a larger screen is currently in preliminary development.

If these reports are indeed true. It indicates Apple’s admission that the last iPhone launch did not perform as expected, and the company needs to make some drastic changes in the next line-up to re-establish its dominance in the smartphone market. Whether a bigger iPhone is the answer remains to be seen.

  1. I’ve owned a 4, 4s, 5s and I like their size. I don’t want a bigger screen. I don’t want a thinner phone.

I want longer battery life, a better camera, better data-throughput & reception.
If making the size of other components smaller allows room for a larger battery, that’s how most people would like it. In my opinion.

  2. with the products coming out every year one just sits back and waits. my phone is still a 3 but now i guess i should wait for the 6 instead of getting the 5. too many too soon leads to some of us just waiting longer.
