twitterrificThere’s no shortage of Twitter clients available in the iOS App Store, but Twitterrific is one of the best. Previously, the app was available with a $2.99 price tag for both iPhone and iPad. However, it seems the developer has decided to adopt the freemium model.

As always, there’s a catch; the free version of the app comes with advertisements which can be removed via in-app purchase that costs $1.99. In addition, to unlock the complete set of features—including push notifications, the Today View, tweet translation and removal of ads from the timeline—users have to pay. The price is $1.99 for push notifications, $3.99 to unlock the app completely. Personally, I feel like this new business model may create a bad impression, as Twitterrific is a great Twitter client, and now the company is charging more to unlock the complete functionality of the app.

The transition from paid to freemium business model isn’t the only change, however; the latest update brings a number of improvements and bug fixes, including a fix for the button colors for users running the iOS 7.1. The latest update also increases timeline capacity to 500 tweets, as well as a few speed optimizations to improve the performance of the app.

If you already purchased the app, you don’t have to worry about anything as you’ve already paid in full, and should not notice any ads. If you’re a new user and want to give the app a try, head over to the App Store and download the app for free to try it out.
