Red Bull (yes, the energy sports drink) has just released a new iOS game called Red Bull Racers. This isn’t really the first game released by Red Bull, as they previously released Red Bull Kart Fighter 3 – Unbeaten Tracks which according to Red Bull was played by millions. Red Bull Media is hoping to repeat this feat with Red Bull Racers.
We were given the chance to preview this game and, to be honest, I wasn’t really expecting that much when I first played it. First, things first, it’s a slot racing game. With a top down view, don’t expect the same racing experience as Real Racing or Ridge Racer. But I really enjoyed it, as did my 5 year old son did. If only he could already write a review, I think he would have a better say on this game.
Anyway, Red Bull Racers is a feature-rich game. There are more than 100 races which you unlock one after the other. The game has three unique series, namely, Formula, Off-road, and Street. There’s also Friends Racers that allows you to challenge your Facebook friends on a race for trophies, or in the weekly competitions. Red Bull Racers enables you to do this via Facebook connect.
At first, you’ll be racing with a single kart. As you go along, you’ll be able to unlock other racers and other karts, including the Infiniti Red Bull RB9, the VW Polo R WRC (which was the winning car in the World Rally Championship 2013) and the V8 super cars, among other graphical renditions of famous racing cars.
Like I said, I didn’t expect I would enjoy this game, but it was fun, beautifully rendered, and has great game physics. One thing I really didn’t like is the fact that the AI of other racers is pretty hard to beat; they barely crash at all. Speaking of car crashes, this is probably one thing you need to master if you want to complete this game. Passing through sharp turns will easily send your car crashing, and it would be impossible for you to catch up with your competitors. So, you’ll have to slow down once you approach a sharp curve and immediately rev up as soon as you’re on a straigt path again.
Overall, Red Bull Racers has all the bells and whistles of a pretty solid racing game. It’s free to download, so there’s no harm in trying it out. There’s a highly probability you won’t regret doing so.
