It was reported last week that Apple would be creating its own internal advertising department as a way to cut ties with its current external ad agency, TBWA/MAL. That agency was no longer working well with Apple, according to internal conversations, and now there are more details regarding what Apple’s replacement will be. Ad Age has detailed the company’s plan for the internal department, which it says will employ 1,000 people.
Working at companies like Apple or Google is usually considered a good thing for people in the technology industry, but Ad Age points out that Apple has actually had a hard time finding employees recently. Hiring efforts have sometimes been unfruitful because of how high the cost of living is in Cupertino and because some people do not look at the company as being nearly as creative as it used to be.
How Apple will fill the 1,000 positions is not entirely clear, nor is it known what will change about the advertisements once they are created internally. However, this report backs up the notion that Apple is not happy with the TBWA/MAL ad agency, and that it will no longer be working with them shortly.
