Your iPhone battery stinks, but it’s your fault. You’re shooting HD video, playing 3D games, constantly checking Facebook, and applying filters to high-res photos. If you’re a hard core iPhone user, you’re going to need a battery backup. The PhoneSuit Elite Battery Case for iPhone 5/5s provides a power top-up along with wraparound protection.
First off, the battery. PhoneSuit provides 2100 mAh of power, giving you 125% of an iPhone 5 charge. You turn the battery on and off using a 1/4″ button on the back of the unit, and the amount of charge available is displayed in five large blue LEDs. The case attaches to your iPhone using a Lightning connector, but has a mini-USB port.
The speaker port and headphone jack are exposed on the bottom, and while the headphone jack is big enough to accept a set of Apple headphones, it’s made of stiff plastic and won’t be accessible to anything larger. Likewise exposed are the volume, mute, and power buttons.
The case itself feels very light and is nicely balanced. The power button is flush with the case, making it hard to accidentally turn on and off in your pocket. You can tap it to check the battery level without turning it on, and the LEDs animate to show if they’re powering on and off. The large battery and the mini-USB cable take a few hours to charge, but you can charge the phone first, using the case as a pass-through.
The only other drawback is that the case doesn’t have much of a lip on the face, meaning if you put it screen-down on the table, you might pick up scratches.
The Elite 5 is one of the best battery cases I’ve used. The on/off button is easy to use but hard to press accidentally, and it’s always clear how much power you have.
