As wonderful as the iPad is for slumping on the couch to read, play games, or see what’s happening at TechnologyTell, I tend to spend just as much time using it at my desk. This usually requires a stand, and as tablets get slimmer, those old stands you bought with your iPad 2 start to feel out of place. If you’re looking for a replacement, the AirStand Kickstarter project may be the place to be.
AirStand features a minimal design with two high quality friction hinges that can be adjusted to achieve the perfect angle for your specific iPad use. The system attaches to your tablet with a strong grip pad that’s easily removable when needed.
The hinge is held in place with the same sticky pad technology that is found in NKMOS Ultima Model S premium in-car mount. It has “amazing sticking power,” but can be removed without leaving any sticky residue behind. It’s also re-useable; just rinse under warm water and let dry.
The hinges are infinitely adjustable, so you’re not stuck with predetermined viewing angles. Set it however you want each time you use it.
Additional features include:
- Made of high grade CNC machined aluminum.
- Offers stability from the smallest to the largest tablets available.
- Designed to withstand touch-typing.
- It’s invisible from the front, so it’s like your tablet is floating on air.
AirStand is currently just over $6,000 towards its $30,000 goal, with 52 days to go in the campaign. Pledge levels start at $55 AUD, which will get you an AirStand in silver aluminum (U.S. and Australia only). International orders start to kick in at $75 AUD, and that’s pretty much it. Perks are all shipping/duty based.
