Well, here it is. My first A rating for an iPhone 6 case, and it comes from Ventev, a company with which I have no previous experience. It’s a rather simple case, crafted of slightly bendable plastic and lined with a soft microfiber on the interior, 100% leather on the exterior. It comes in black/camel, camel/tan and dark gray / light gray (pictured below), all of which look very professional and are comfortable to hold.

The Penna is nothing terribly fancy as far as functionality goes, but it gets just about everything right.

Of all the iPhone 6 cases I’ve used so far, the Ventev Penna is one of the easiest to apply and remove. The plastic bends enough for it to easily snap over the rounded edges of the iPhone 6, but it holds tight once it’s in place. And although volume and sleep/wake buttons are covered by the leather exterior, they’re not by the plastic, making it easier to position the iPhone without pressing the buttons (and the button response is fantastic through the leather).

There’s no fear of bending your iPhone while removing the Ventev because it can be pried away from pretty much any point on the phone.

Because of the open bottom, you’ll be able to place your iPhone 6 on many third-party docks even while the case is on. This is huge for me, because I dock recharge my iPhone every night on an iHome speaker dock that also allows me to use the iPhone as my alarm clock. With the Ventev Penna, I don’t have to remove the case each night to do this.

Of course, an open top and bottom mean less protection for those areas, so you’ll want to be more careful with your phone. Beyond that, the protection is decent against scuffs and scratches, as well as minor drops. And because of the genuine leather exterior, those scuffs and scratches are less likely to leave a permanent mark than they would be on a plastic case. Same goes for fingerprints; you’re Penna will look newer longer.

Honestly, I’m not sure why I’ve never tried Ventev before; they’ve been making Apple compatible cases since at least the iPhone 5. Now that I’ve got a Ventev on, however, I’m loath to take it off to review other cases. I will, because we have a lot to get through. For everything ahead, though, the Ventev Penna has set the bar.

Those dotted holes would be extra awesome if the Apple logo lights up like on macbooks!
