Our second Spigen iPhone 6 case up for review is the Spigen Neo Hybrid Metal case. It consists of a TPU back cover and a UV coated aluminum frame. Together, these two materials form a stylish, sturdy frame with dual layer impact protection.
Despite the metal frame, the Spigen Neo Hybrid Metal case does not add to much bulk to the iPhone 6. In fact, it’s so thin that you can hardly notice the added thickness. For those worried its thin design might not be able to protect your iPhone 6 from bumps and falls, Spigen says protection was not sacrificed.
Another good thing about this case is that it preserves the distinct design of the iPhone 6 while providing protection; its design smoothly follows the contours of the iPhone 6. Users will only want to use this case if they don’t mind covering it up with the TPU material, but the good news is that the black of the TPU blends well with the metallic color of the metal frame (available in champagne gold, Dante red, gunmetal, infinity white, metal slate, Reventon yellow, and satin silver), giving it a nice, classy and elegant look.
Of course, an important test of a good iPhone 6 case (at least for us here at the Technology Tell Apple Channel) is whether it’s a pain to put the case on and take it off. I haven’t found this too difficult, so it shouldn’t be annoying if you have to remove the case every now and then for use third-party docking accessories. Charging your iPhone though won’t require taking the case off since the charging port was left open. The volume and power on/off buttons are covered but have molded buttons.
The Spigen Neo Hybrid Metal case is not perfect though. One down-side I’ve noticed is the overly recessed cut out in the metal bumper that lets you access the “mute” switch. This makes flicking the switch not as easy as it should be.
All those being said, we recommend the Spigen Neo Hybrid Metal Case for iPhone 6 owners who are looking for an elegant yet durable protective case. It’s going to be a tough decision whether you’d choose this case over the other Spigen case we reviewed recently, the Spigen Tough Armor Case.
