Moshi gets me. I’m all about protective cases that do not interfere with the design of the item being protected. Apple is always working to make an attractive design with their iPhones, and protective cases should not make them look like another brick with unwanted bulk and weight. Moshi realizes this, and has given us the iGlaze for iPhone 6 Plus. It’s sleek. It’s slim. It’s stylish. But is it everything a case should be? Let’s find out.
The Moshi iGlaze case is actually a hybrid case offering two levels of protection. First, there’s a rubberized inner layer to protect the iPhone from any shock damage. This layer makes up the top half of the sides of the case to provide added grip and flexibility to snap in the iPhone. The top edges of the side are raised to provided added protection to the screen when you have it laying face down on a flat surface.
The outer shell, then, is high strength polycarbonate to keep nicks and scratches away.
Along the sides of the case, the volume and mute buttons are covered. There are cutouts for the mute switch, the headphone jack and microphone, data port, and speaker.
On the back, there’s a cutout for the camera and flash along with a large circular cutout in the location of the Apple logo on your iPhone. This not only shows off the logo on your phone, but also allows unobstructed access for the NFC chip (located behind the logo) to make use of things like Apple Pay work easier.
I found that while the top edges offered flexibility, it was a very tight fit to get the iPhone 6 Plus into the case, and more effort to take it back out. If you’re planning to keep the case on at all times, the tighter fit is actually reassuring—no worries of having it accidentally fall out. If you’re planning to take the phone in and out of the case a lot, then you might not like the extra effort it takes to perform this task.
I only have a few minor issues with the Moshi iGlaze. First, I would prefer it if the rubberized texture of the inner shell covered more of the sides of the case to provide better grip. As it is, it’s only handling the top third of all sides. The harder polycarbonate outer shell makes up the lower two thirds of the sides which can make it feel a little slick when holding in your hand.
The other issue I have is the large cut out for the Apple logo and NFC chip on the iPhone. Many other cases don’t have this cut out, and there have not been any problems using the NFC feature for performing Apple Pay payments. If Moshi wants to show off the Apple logo, I would still like to see some protective cover, maybe clear polycarbonate, to protect it from any nicks and scratches.
The Moshi iGlaze iPhone 6 Plus case offers an attractive and lightweight solution for your iPhone. Its form fitting design provides maximum protection with minimal impact to the feel, use, and looks of the iPhone. It may just be your perfect match.
