It has been reported by Bloomberg, that Google paid Apple and astonishing $1B so that it could remain the default Search Engine on the iOS platform. Funny how companies that constantly battle with each other have no problem paying to play with each other. How do you think the PR firm for Google and Apple feel today? I am sure there is a lot of scrambling going on in their offices.
Now, I am not certain of the full details of the deal and how the money was paid, but I am sure part of the $1B came from the percentage of revenue Google gains from search on iOS and not just a flat check.
No doubt this will most certainly enrage Oracle even more with their long-standing fight with Google over their Java platform where Oracle claims Google used the platform to launch and run its Android backbone for their devices.
“The specific financial terms of Google’s agreement with Apple are highly sensitive to both Google and Apple,” Google said in its Jan. 20 filing. “Both Apple and Google have always treated this information as extremely confidential.”
