Oops, it seems like Apple has been beaten by Toshiba in the “green” race. EPEAT, a US organization dedicated to environmental ratings has given Apple a silver-rating for 5 of its notebooks. In contrast, the organization awarded Toshiba with 5 golds, 15 silvers and another 4 bronze-ratings its notebooks. That’s 24 medals in total, and it’s certainly not too shabby at all.
Why are EPEAT ratings so important? The standard is currently used by the US government, who will only purchase equipment that has been rated (highly). Other PC manufacturers fared at around roughly the same level (Dell had 2 golds, 12 silvers; HP had 23 silvers; Lenovo had 48 silvers and 1 bronze). Oh well, I guess there’s still room for improvement.
