German magazine Capital is reporting that Apple and Volkswagen are working together on an “iCar”, or more specifically car integration systems. In an earlier interview with CNET a strategy manager for Volkswagen said they have been working on “the development of its navigation and human interface” and that its customers will see “some interesting things in this space in the near to long-term future”.
While I would like to see a full “iCar”, I would not begin to think that Apple is entering the automobile business and we are most likely looking at some good integration options. Possibly something dealing with iPods or iTunes. It would be nice to be able to have Wi-Fi and sync your playlists when your car is home, maybe even an AppleTV like device with a small touchscreen display in the dash. Hey, one can dream.
