iLounge is claiming that the new iPod Classics and Nanos won’t work with third-party accessories that carry the video-out signal. These accessories, which were designed for the 4G/5G iPods, will render an iPod’s TV Out option useless even when clicked on. Videos will still play on the iPod’s little screen, but not on a widescreen TV or other portable display.
Turns out, Apple purposely made the iPod in this way without announcing this change to their customers. The only way to use this feature is by buying a genuine video cable/accessory made by Apple themselves. These products supposedly have a special authentication chip that is not available even to Apple-licensed third-party developers.
Apple’s upcoming video cables will sell for a steep $49. How sneaky.
