Both AppleInsider and MacRumors believe that the next generation of both Apple’s MacBook and MacBook Pro lines will have multi-touch oversized trackpads. While this is nothing stunning – it would be absurd for Apple to include the technology only on it’s most niche product- it is certainly an exciting update to look forward to.
The next line of MacBook Pro computers is expected sometime within the next month, which could also be a likely time for the MacBook to be updated. Both computer’s last updates were on November first, and neither update was very substantial.
The upcoming update’s rumors revolve mainly around the MacBook Pro, saying that it will get Intel’s Penryn set of processors at 2.5 and 2.6 GHz, and a 2.8 BTO option is likely. With the MacBook, details haven’t surfaced at all, but a case change is possible, given that the MacBooks are the only computers in Apple’s product line still using plastic casing. On the other hand, moving to an aluminum casing would render all of Apple’s laptops very similar in appearance. There were reports of “Gunmetal Grey” and aluminum notebook being seen in Apple’s product testing areas last month, and they were widely believed to have been the MacBook Air. Another possibility is that these are the next iteration of the MacBooks. The “Gunmetal Grey” color would differentiate them nicely from the more “Pro” notebooks, the Air and the Pro.
