If you’re one of many that has their iPhone/iPod Touch on firmware version 1.1.3, then you would have had to downgrade to 1.1.1 in order to get the latest jailbreak working. Jailbreakme.com has gone through some major updates recently to ease this process. It now automatically auto preps your 1.1.1 installation, installs the latest Installer.app version (including community sources so you get the new modmyifone source), and cleans up after itself more thoroughly. This makes the whole “hacking” process far more user-friendly, and opens it up to a much wider community of inexperienced users, giving them a chance to jailbreak their iPhones/iPods without having to do anything complicated at all, and without risking anything either (although you are still voiding your guarantee, you can easily restore the device through iTunes).
However, this doesn’t mean that a device running 1.1.3 can be jailbroken directly – you’ll still need to do the tedious process of restoring it to version 1.1.1. But this is a lot easier from where it started – once you’ve done the downgrade, let iJailbreak or Jailbreakeme do the rest.
