iPhoneThe iPhone developer kit has proven to be highly popular since its release just a week ago. Apple announced that it has been downloaded over 100,000 times. Of course, these are just statistics. The people downloading it could simply just want to play around with it and not develop any applications, some may have been re-tried downloads. But this definitely gives a good idea of how much interest there is in the iPhone SDK. It’s mentioned on all of the tech blogs, even in newspapers.

“Developer reaction to the iPhone SDK has been incredible with more than 100,000 downloads in the first four days,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Also, over one million people have watched the launch video on Apple.com, further demonstrating the incredible interest developers have in creating applications for the iPhone.”

Many companies are already showing support for the iPhone platform, including: Intuit, Namco Networks, NetSuite, PopCap, Rocket Mobile, Six Apart, and THQ Wireless. Specific software titles listed include Pac-Man, Galaga, Bejeweled, Zuma, Peggle and SuitePhone. Although the SDK is available for download right now, the software update 2.0 enabling these apps to be used will be released in June, alongside the iTunes app store.
