Law BooksThere are reports that Apple has hired Charles Charnas, a former deputy general attorney for HP that oversaw the purchase of Compaq for $25 billion in 2001. After being hired by HP in 1999, he quickly made his way to the upper positions, being elected Vice President and Deputy General Counsel a short three years later. He worked at HP for 18 years and is said to be an enthusiastic guitar player as well as a proud iPhone owner. He will be filling Michael Wyatt’s position, who left eight years ago in 2000, and will answer to Daniel Cooperman, Apple’s new General Counsel.

I can imagine being a lawyer for Apple would be a pretty tough job, with new lawsuits coming in everyday. However, many people think Mr. Charnas will be a nice addition in Cupertino. Jeffery Fromm, a HP employee, says, “I think it’s a strong addition for Apple.” Furthermore, Anna Marie Armstrong, a San Francisco based legal recruiter, adds, “It seems like Apple’s at a point where they want to hire really senior experienced lawyers for their in-house department.”
