MacBook DesignComputers. Displays. Cell phones. Music players. Online music. Storage. Networking. Apple is already in a ton of markets, many of which, unfortunately, are tightly tied together. However, Apple is still a relatively young company and can branch out so much more. The questions is, if at all, where? Will they enter the digital camera market? The gaming market? The GPS and auto market? Or maybe even video cameras? It could be any of the above, especially given the fact that Apple has applied for so many patents lately. It will be interesting to find out, but heres my thoughts:

The gaming market: Definitely not. Well, at least not in the way you would expect. This market is already dominated by three devices (360, PS3, and Wii), and adding a fourth will only make the strain on developers to create games for all platforms even greater. Also, getting any sort of strong market share in this field would be tough for Apple due to the brands already established that I mentioned above. However, you could argue that Apple is already in this market. The iPhone makes for one sick handheld device with its accelerometer and touch screen. Macs have just begun to enter this market with EA’s recent announcements about new games for Mac OS X, but I believe the iPhone (and iPod Touch) is where it’s at for Apple in this market.

The overall camera market (video and still): I think this would be an interesting market for Apple to enter. With the iSight already in all of their computers, I believe Apple could do some interesting stuff with a separate camera device. The article linked to above is an example of how slick this device could be. Also, with FCP, iMovie, iPhoto, and Aperture there could be some awesome integration with the device and it’s software. With Apple’s design sense and innovation, I’m sure they could come up with something pretty outstanding.

Where do you think Apple is headed next, if anywhere at all? Do you think the company should wait a while before jumping into another market? Image via Mobile Mag

  1. Well I think that Apple is targeting the business market: think of what it is doing with the iPhone and how well it is selling Leopard to businessmen.
