Living Solution SpeakersIn a move that could possibly gauge how effective its licensing system for iPod accessories is, Apple has a filed a lawsuit against Atico International for infringing on its “Made for iPod” label. Apple complained that Atico’s iPod speakers product line, which include the AM/FM Portable Boom Box, AM/FM Alarm Clock Radio and Portable Speakers, have violated several of its key patents.

In a ten-page lawsuit, Apple cited Aticos’ Dock Connector for transferring data, as well as its Universal Dock design, remote controls, and 3 dock adapters which were meant to be used to fit iPods of different sizes to a standard dock model. In a copy of the complaint which Apple Insider got from reliable source, Apple said that Atico did not obtain a license for using the docking design for the speakers which Apple could have received royalties based on its “Made for Apple” program. Apple further contends that any use of iPod trademark or similar logos which are used to indicate compatibility with iPod models are meant to exploit its name and reputation. Likewise it also violates the federal Lanham Act, apple said.

The complaint demands for a permanent injunction of the sale of the offending Living Solutions speakers which as Apple contends deprives it of income. Apple is also demanding for damages brought about by the said violation.

Both Apple and Atico have not commented or spoke publicly about the lawsuit.

  1. …lets be more specific when describing Accessories.
Accessories is a huge spectrum of products that is associated with Apple from covers to skins to pouches to charms… are these categories being questioned as well in the law-suite as inferior products to be associated with the Apple product and its ability to function properly?
If it is and Apple is trying to monopolize that industry as well…many a people are making a living of this brand. I would hate to see Apple win on this issue if the above mentioned falls into that category.
I say boycott Apple for awhile and let’s see how hard they fall…
    May the best man win!
