iPhone - 575 million potential customers

If only 3% of those 575 million potential customers buy an iPhone, we’re at 17.25 million; well over Apple’s goal of 10 million iPhones for the end of 2008. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Muster, who put out this prediction, explains his theory:

The key numbers in his report:

  1. 46 carriers announced to date (up from 6 currently)
  2. 42 countries covered (up from 6)
  3. 575 million total available market (up from 153 million)

17.5 million phones is quite a few, but Munster still believes that Apple will sell 45 million phones. Of course that number is huge comparing to Apple’s goal, but if they open to China and Japan, for a total market of 1.1 billion, and a lower cost iPhone, he’s sure they will surpass their goal.
